James Retherford’s journey has taken him

from the ridiculous to the absurd in search

of the sublime. Along the way, he came to

embrace two entwined ideas: (1) the quest

for the sublime is both aesthetic and politi-

cal and (2) art and politics, indeed all human

history, evolve from the unfolding contra-

diction between work and money.

On the front lines throughout a colorful life

as social activist, writer/editor, and graphic

artist in Indiana, NYC, and Texas, he has

been tailed and jailed for his fearless prose

and dada-inspired political theatre. By equal

measure, he also has been honored by peers

with many journalism and design awards.

Please meet James Retherford and his

illusive alter-ego Doctor Dada and enjoy this

selection of graphic and written works.
